The Youth Group has planned the "Winter Ball" event for January 7th (Saturday).  The event will start from 7pm to 11pm at church.  The teens have worked really hard so far by forming committees to handle the event such as decoration, ticket sales, advertisement, prizes, and much more.

The purpose of the event is to have something nice for the young adults, parents, and other parishioners at our church for social and fellowship.  The dress attire for this evening is nice because the teens will decorate the hall and the dinner served is catered food.  There will also be adult beverages, entertainment, prizes....basically a fun night out for the adults.  The main purpose for this event was to do something nice for the adults so they can have fun one weekend.

At the same time, this is a fund-raiser for the youth group for World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Austrailia (http://www.wjt2005.de/index.php?id=6&si=1).  This year the WYD was in Germany.  To get a better idea of what WYD is, you can look at the schedule they had this year: http://www.wjt2005.de/fileadmin/publish/wjt2005-table-of-events.pdf  This is for high school and college students in 2008.  That means parents of 7th grade and up will be affected by this.  The fund-raiser part is from the profit made from ticket sales and the cash bar.

The ticket sales are $35 per adult (covers catered food, entertainment, and 2 drink coupons - adult bevs will be cash bar).  Children under 8th grade will be $5 (for meals, drinks, and snacks throughout the night).  Children (not infants) will be babysat by teens at the office building - giving the adults a time away from their kids to have fun with their spouse.

Entertainment will consist of dancing and/or singing (we'll have a Karaoke machine).  There will be a contest for singing with first and second place prizes.  Judges will be the teens.  Throughout the evening, we will do door prize drawings for everyone who purchased a ticket.  There will also be a special event that the high school teens will do for their parents that evening (this is not revealed till that evening).

The teens will decorate the event, serve the food at the event, MC the event, judge the contest, handle all prize give-aways...basically run the whole event for the adults at our church.  Again, this is an event that the youth is putting on for the adults.

We only have one more Sunday to sell tickets.  We will need to get at least 50 people to attend to make profit after deducting our expenses.  So far we have 17 people.  We do understand that not everyone can attend.  We also understand that people have other committments.  We do not want anyone to feel obligated to do this, however, we want to relay the correct message on the purpose of the event so everyone can make their decisions based on that.  We are aware that this may not be something that the people will come to so if we do not get 50 people, then we will be cancelling the event and think about another idea for the future.  Thank you again for supporting our youth.
